Changes to Leila's Schedule
January 28, 2012

Leila’s concert with conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen in Milan on February 6 has been canceled due to a medical procedure that Salonen needs to undergo in the United States. The entire program has changed and Josefowicz and Salonen are rescheduled there together in 2014.
The concerts in Budapest and Freidrichshafen in early March have been cancelled due to the upcoming birth of her second child. The other dates on the tour still stand. Leila will be recording the Salonen Concerto after her tour on March 9-11 in Helsinki with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting. Other details will be announced shortly.

Leila Pregnancy Press Release
December 29, 2011

Leila Josefowicz is pleased to announce that she is expecting her second child.
Due to the close proximity of the due date, the Colin Matthews German premier in Frankfurt on April 27, 2012 will be delayed until another season as well as Leila’s recital in Richmond, Virginia on May 5th, 2012 and the concert at the Barbican in London May 30th, 2012. As much of the repertoire in the program was written specifically for her, the Barbican has taken the decision to postpone this concert to a future season. The Barbican looks forward to welcoming her, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Magnus Lindberg and Karita Mattila back to the Barbican very soon. All other concerts listed on Leila’s website will be played.
We would like to congratulate Leila and wish her the very best during this exciting time in her life. For a full listing of Leila’s performances this season, please visit her website: www.leilajosefowicz.com.

S.F. Symphony review: Esa-Pekka Salonen concerto
December 10, 2011

The headline event in this Davies Symphony Hall concert - which coincided with the orchestra's actual 100th birthday - was Salonen's Violin Concerto, a fascinating 2009 score that recently won the prestigious (and lucrative) Grawemeyer Award. And there was no denying the force and inventiveness in that work, especially in a phenomenal performance by violinist Leila Josefowicz.......

The SFS ‘centennial day’ concert
December 09, 2011

In this setting, then, the future was embodied in Josefowicz herself, still young but with a well-established concert career.  She has a strong grounding in the traditional violin repertoire, but her approach to new additions is fearless.  Her chemistry with Salonen-as-conductor reflected a firm bond of communication with Salonen-the-composer.  Through her relationship with both sides of Salonen, she offered an execution of his challenging composition in the best possible light, leaving many (certainly this listener) with a strong urge to hear this concerto more often.  If this is what her generation of performers is bringing to the repertoire, then the future is indeed a bright one.......

Review: Esa-Pekka Salonen stirs up some heroics in Davies Symphony Hall
December 09, 2011

Salonen's Violin Concerto is a tour de force, composed for Josefowicz, who premiered it with the composer and the L.A. Phil in 2009. One might say that to perform this work is to undertake a hero's journey. For a solid 30 minutes, across four tightly crafted movements and a fistful of cadenzas, the soloist faces a wall of technical challenges: endless double-stops and string slides, elaborate melodic lines played fast as a bullet train, and super-delicate harmonics balanced at heights that would induce dizziness in a hawk.......

Go For Wagner, Be Thrilled by Salonen
December 08, 2011

Violating child labor laws, poor, brilliant Josefowicz is made to play virtually nonstop, including innumerable impossible passages. She is on for just about every minute of the half-hour concerto (without using a score), while all but the percussion sit back and just watch her with admiration.......
